If you regularly consider how the products you purchase are made, including how they affect the environment or what harmful chemicals are used, then the idea of outfitting a nursery is probably very overwhelming.
I've been there and I want to help ease you into the process with some of my favorite products!
Cloth Diapers: bumGenius
I absolutely love bumGenius' Elemental All-In-One cloth diapers! These diapers are super durable and come in so many cute colors and prints, which is always fun.
These diapers are made with 100% organic cotton liners, which is wonderful considering this will be against your baby's sensitive areas regularly.
I love that these diapers are one-size, which means they even fit tiny newborns. The easily adjustable snaps work wonderful and help make this purchase last from newborn to toddler.
Bedding: Burt's Bees
There was a time when I didn't get why you'd need organic bedding or clothing- you're not eating it! Then through my Eco-Parenting certification, I was schooled on that fact that fabric is often processed with a lot of chemicals that can be potentially harmful.
Now I practice the method of trying the best I can to fit in organic cotton when my family will have a lot of exposure to the fabric, like our sheets and blankets.
Burt's Bees bedding is 100% organic cotton, which is great! It's also so amazingly soft. Now, at least you won't be worrying about chemicals when you're waking every five minutes to check if your baby is breathing!
Swaddles & Blankets: Aden + Anais
Ugh, I'm so obsessed with the Aden + Anais swaddles. Every time a see a new print I wonder how I can incorporate them throughout my entire house.
Not only are these swaddles free of harsh chemicals, they're 100% organic and so freaking cute it kills me. Do yourself a favor and just page through the many prints you can choose from. Daydream of using the scraps to make your own adult-sized blanket.
Crib Mattress: Naturpedic
Again, I subscribe to the philosophy if my family spends more time around the product, I'm more likely to purchase organic. This is definitely the case with mattresses.
Naturepedic has several organic crib mattresses to choose from. Mattresses are one of the biggest culprits of off-gassing, which is when a product emits the chemicals it was produced with into your home. These chemicals can be allergens, carcinogens or hormone-disrupters. Mattresses are known to continuously off-gas for their entire use.
I'd highly recommend if you purchase only one item off this list, prioritize the mattress, especially if you choose to sleep your baby in their crib from the start.
Finding eco-friendly and non-toxic furniture can be a challenge, but Babyletto has some of the cutest pieces out there.
Not only that, but they have quite the price range to help all families find a crib or glider that fits in their budget. They have everything from cribs, changing stations, dressers and bookshelves to cute accessories.
